Ahoi Ashtami 2026
Ahoi Ashtami 2026: Date, Shubh Muhurat, Puja Vidhi & Zodiac Remedies
In 2026, the sacred Ahoi Ashtami festival will be celebrated on Sunday, November 1. According to Hindu astrology, Ahoi Ashtami occurs on the Ashtami Tithi on Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik and celebrates Ahoi Mata (the Goddess Shakti).
It’s a day for mothers to show their maternal devotion by observing an intense fast from dawn until dark, praying for their children to live long, be healthy, and prosper.
This year’s Ahoi Ashtami will also coincide with the significant Radha Kunda Snan bath ceremony in Govardhan, generating a great deal of spiritual energy.
The fact that both events occur on a Sunday (Sun’s Day) also adds strength and protection to the prayers performed at this time.

AstroZindagi Tip: On November 1, 2026, after performing Puja, you should take a small handful of grains from the ones you used during the Katha. Place the handful in your child’s study area (Desk or School Bag). This is a remedy that acts as a Siddha or charm, keeping your child focused and protected from the bad influences of other children for a year.
Astrological Significance of Ahoi Ashtami 2026
Ahoi Ashtami is closely linked to the teachings of the Puranas through the story of a woman with seven sons. She accidentally killed a baby porcupine while digging in the ground. As a result, she lost one son after another until she had no children left.
She fasted and prayed to Almighty Ahoi Mata on that special Tithi until her sons came back to her. It is now a day to celebrate mothers’ ability to protect their children, “Kavach” (keeping a shield over) them from external dangers.
From a Vedic (Astrological) point of view, Ashtami is owned by Rahu. However, when Ashtami falls in Kartik, it is a purifying day. On November 1, 2026, the planetary alignment shows the moon shrinking, allowing us to look within ourselves to purify ourselves spiritually.
Something that makes the year 2026 different from previous years is the Holy Snan at Radha Kunda. It is recommended that couples who are unable to conceive or are having trouble conceiving go to Mathura/Govardhan and take a holy dip in the Radha Kunda at Midnight.
This holy dip will neutralise what is called Putra Dosha and/or remove barriers to Santti where children of the birth chart are located. The evening puja is a good time to set intentions for the future of the younger generation.
The evening Puja Muhurat (05:36 PM to 06:54 PM) is conducive to repeating your intention to devote yourself to future generations who are part of the Santti of your birth chart.
The Ritual of Star Sighting (Sanjh)
The ritual for sighting stars (Sanjh) will be different from Karwa Chauth, where you break your fast based on seeing the moon. For Ahoi Ashtami, the fast is traditionally broken upon sighting the stars (i.e., after sunset).
Why stars?
On this day, the moonrise will occur quite late, at 11:40 PM. For many, waiting until midnight can be physically demanding. Therefore, Sanjh’s time to sight stars is at 06:00 PM, during which time you are permitted to end your fast.
The stars represent the various types (progeny) of the Cosmic Mother, and seeing them is thought to shower upon the children of Cosmic Mother “Taara” (the starlight) of the Divine Mother.
How to Celebrate Ahoi Ashtami 2026 Puja – Step-by-Step Instructions
Performing the Ahoi Mata puja is a community activity, and generally, mothers from the area will perform the ritual together.
Drawing of Ahoi Mata: Traditionally, the figure of Ahoi Mata (with eight corners “Ashta Kosh”) is drawn on a wall using geru (orange clay). In contemporary times, printed posters or calendars are used for the drawing. The drawing includes seven sons and a porcupine (“Syahu”) in recognition of the legend.
Prepare a Kalash and Karwa: Place a Kalash (filled with water) and a small earthen pot (Karwa) near the drawing. The nozzle of the Karwa is blocked by “Kusha” grass. You would also place offerings of “Akshat” (rice), floral offerings, and a “Syahu” (traditionally, several silver-beaded Ahois) inside the Karwa.
Puja Offerings (Bhog): A festive meal of Poori, Halwa, and Pua will be placed as a part of the puja offerings. Additionally, seven grains (Saptadhanya) will be placed in a bowl on the puja table (next to the festive meal). During the puja muhurat (05:36 PM to 06:54 PM), the Ahoi Ashtami Vrat Katha will be performed. Each mother will hold some grains and a few flowers while listening to the story.
Arghya and Breaking the Fast: At 06:00 PM, when the stars become visible, the Kalash will be used to offer water (Arghya) to the stars. Many mothers will wait to offer water to the moon at 11:40 PM, depending on their family traditions. After the water offering, the mother takes a sip of water from her child’s hand to signify the end of her fast.
Ahoi Ashtami 2026: Remedies for Your Zodiac Sign (Rashi Upay)
Mothers can perform the following remedies on November 1, 2026, based on their Moon sign to ensure the success of their children:
Aries (Mesha): Offer red flowers to Ahoi Mata and donate red lentils. This remedy will enhance your child’s intellect and give them the courage needed to overcome their obstacles.
Taurus (Vrishabha): Offer white sweets and a small silver bead to the Goddess. This remedy will ensure that your children will have a beautiful and stable future.
Gemini (Mithuna): Offer green cardamom along with 21 blades of Durva grass. This remedy will help remove communication barriers for your child, enabling them to excel academically.
Cancer (Karka): Performing Abhishek to a Shiva Lingam at an altar can soothe your child’s anxiety and keep them healthy if done with raw milk.
Leo (Simha): Offer jaggery and red sandalwood to enhance your child’s leadership qualities and create social recognition for them.
Virgo (Kanya): Donating green clothing or stationery items to less fortunate children can help align with the energy of Mercury and overcome your child’s analytical blockages.
Libra (Tula): Give white silk fabric with perfumed oil to bring harmony and artistic achievement into your child’s life.
Scorpio (Vrishchika): Offer red vermillion and jaggery as a remedy to shield your child from the “evil eye” and increase their determination.
Sagittarius (Dhanu): Donate yellow fruits and turmeric to bring divine wisdom to assist your children’s educational path, because this sign has Jupiter (Guru) as its planetary ruler.
Capricorn (Makara): Light a lamp with mustard oil under a Peepal tree in the morning to alleviate the effects of Saturn on your children’s careers.
Aquarius (Kumbha): Offer coconut water and blue flowers as a remedy to bring about innovative successes and social attractiveness within their endeavours.
Pisces (Meena): Silent meditation for 20 minutes before the stars appear, and offering honey and yellow flowers for spiritual clarity for your child.
The Mystery of Radha Kunda Snan
Many individuals connect the Radha Kunda Snan in Govardhan with Ahoi Ashtami. The Puranas state that Krishna formed Syama Kunda, while Radharani produced Radha Kunda. A belief maintained is that taking a nocturnal dip in these temples will increase one’s chances of conceiving a child.
The midnight snan in 2026 will produce tremendous results due to the combined celebration of Ahoi Ashtami with a weekend. Couples traditionally provide “petha” (ash gourd) or flower garlands to Radha Kunda following their midday dip. However, if you aren’t able to travel to Govardhan for Ahoi Ashtami, you can create your own ceremonial “water” by adding several drops of Ganga Jal to your midnight bath at home for the same types of spiritual benefits that would be experienced in Govardhan.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the significance of offering your faith and devotion by waiting until nightfall to offer the first meal following the fasting period?
As mentioned previously, the stars are considered children of the sky; likewise, mothers demonstrate their patience and devotion by waiting for them. Therefore, when observing a fast of any kind, it is customary to complete this fast upon sighting the first stars at night. However, due to the late rising of the waxing moon (approximately 11:40 PM), the most practical way to conclude this fast would be during Star Sighting at 6:00 PM.
Is it permissible to use salt when completing your Ahoi Ashtami fast?
Yes, but mothers generally do not observe any use of salt during this day, at night, or in the meal consumed before breaking the fast. Instead, they will consume only “satvik” foods such as “pooris” or “halwa.” However, if maintaining one’s health is a concern, then Sendha Namak (rock salt) may be used in limited quantities throughout the day.
What is the significance of Syahu jewellery?
Syahu jewellery is defined as jewellery made from silver, including two separate silver beads representing individual women, and one or more images of Ahoi Mata, each representing motherhood. Mothers who are blessed with children or grandchildren will add one silver bead to their syahu each time they are blessed with an additional generation. The syahu is worn throughout the puja (worship service) and then secured for safekeeping after the puja is completed.
Can women without children observe the Ahoi Ashtami fast?
Absolutely. Women wishing to become pregnant often observe this fast and perform the Radha Kunda Snan (ritual bath) to seek Ahoi Mata’s blessings for a healthy child.
What if I miss the puja muhurta?
The window of opportunity to perform the puja is from 5:36 PM until 6:54 PM. However, as long as the puja has been performed before first spotting the stars, then the puja can continue after 6:54 PM. The only restriction is that the katha portion must be completed before doing puja.
